Cover Blown, True Intent Exposed....

Many that profess Christian belief are liars and frauds.  How do I know it's "many"?  God's word says so.  "MANY are called, few are chosen."  " . . . the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are MANY who go through it."

True intent belies what is outwardly claimed.

They aren't "Christian" because they really love God, love the Truth. . . . It is often but another selfish, self-serving act.  They are "Christian" because somewhere they think it might possibly be the winning side and its worth hedging bets.

Or, very often . . . it is mere peer pressure.  They grew up in a "Christian" home, surrounded by church and "Christian" culture . . . and they are too timid and weak to rebel or contradict the pervasive "Christian" environment they find themselves in--so they go along with it . . . on the surface, and may have even deceived themselves that they are "Christian" . . . when the truth is, they don't really care or think about God privately.  They are fine with appearances, but inwardly is all manner of selfishness, comfort seeking, materialism, jealousies and lusts. . . .

Or . . . they are pragmatic . . . and opportunistic . . . and--though they don't know this about themselves because they've never really looked honestly inward--they think by professing belief and service to Jesus, to the God of the Bible . . . it works like a magic code or cover which will help them get what they actually only selfishly and self-glorifyingly want (with no REAL thought or concern what God wants or is glorified by). . . .

Intent.

What is the true, deep, often hidden and secreted intent . . . within the heart.  It was this issue that Jesus was primarily exposing in the Sermon On The Mount.  You may look like a "Christian" in all your outward acts, your dress, your language, you kind works, your talk and habits, and may have likely even fooled your superficial self with all this . . . WHEN IN FACT AND IN TRUTH--your heart is not centered on God at all.  It is centered on an idol of God--an idea of God that you've made up, which is really just YOU--and all these exterior acts and appearances are mere window dressing which hides a heart and mind that are bubbling with sinful and self-centered INTENTIONS.  "God" is a concept, a disguise you use to cover what is actually but a train and growing momument of self-serving, self-glorifying, prideful, indulgent intentions and works. . . .

"God" . . . "Jesus" . . . is a convenience to exploit, providing cover, for all manner of a covetous, hateful, competitive, calculating heart. . . .

But God is not fooled.  Jesus warned that He sees all--He sees and knows the TRUE intent of the heart and soul and mind, whether it truly seeks and loves Him above all, or merely claims as much while seeking and loving self above all. . . .

MANY who profess to love and serve God . . . will be shocked when He rejects them as liars, frauds and "workers of iniquity".  They will be offended, crying out, "Look at all we have done in Your name!"

And then the veil will come down and they will see the horror of their true selves--and that they all the while only served the devil, the Liar . . . seduced through serving fallen, wicked self!

Their indifference and even abhorrence of Truth and of God . . . through all their life . . . will be exposed--their cover finally blown. . . .

This warning in the Bible is--and should be--one of the most disturbing sections to face and comprehend. . . . (Matt. 7:22-23)

Good message,

The true church is on the inside where we should be on our faces.

Bro T - given this state, how do we then ever know we are saved? Is it up to us to get it completely right? Is the mere presence of selfishness and self-centeredness enough evidence against our salvation? If our salvation is in Christ and He's our Solid Rock, how is our own condition the ground we stand on?

These thoughts came as I read your post... WOuld love your view...
